Since the recruitment of volunteers for the Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Games was officially launched on August 28, as of September 3, the number of applicants in Beijing has exceeded 120000, and the total number of consultation hotline and publicity and consultation points has reached more than 500000. The reporter learned from the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games today that as of 5:00 p.m. yesterday, the total number of applicants in Beijing had reached 123017, of which nearly a quarter of the total number of applicants were from all walks of life in Beijing; the rest were registered by teachers and students of the university system through the recruitment points set up inside the University. According to the person in charge of the Beijing Olympic Games volunteer work coordination group office, as of 5:00 p.m. yesterday, the total number of volunteer consultations reached 520000, of which 80% were from colleges and universities; 14% of the total number of on-site consultations were received by 50 publicity and consultation centers in the city; and the rest were calls from the volunteer hotline of Beijing Olympic call center Call for advice. It is reported that the total demand for volunteers for the Beijing Olympic Games is about 70000, and that for the Paralympic Games is about 30000. During the games, hundreds of thousands of city volunteers will be needed to provide volunteer services in transportation, tourism, shopping, reception, environmental protection, language and other fields in the key areas around the venues and in the major transportation hubs, tourist attractions and commercial areas of the city. The recruitment of urban volunteers will start next year.
