The Department of art and design, founded in 1987, is one of the earliest Department of art and design in Guangdong.

The faculty comes from many famous design institutes throughout the country, such as Tsinghua University (formerly the Central Academy of Arts and crafts), The China Academy of Art and Guangzhou Academy of fine arts.

Every professional in the Department of design art has a small class elite education (with only 20 people in each class), and has implemented the teaching policy of combining quality with theory and design closely. Over the past 20 years, teaching achievements have been remarkable. Many graduates have become the elite backbone or successful entrepreneurs of many famous design and educational units in Guangdong and Guangzhou.
