Cotton Verticillium wilt is known as cotton "cancer".

Cotton disease is the most serious disease in cotton and other places. Cotton must suffer from serious reduction or even harvest.

After 8 years' efforts, the research team led by Guo Huishan, a researcher at the Institute of Microbiology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, has made a series of breakthroughs in the control of Cotton Verticillium Wilt with gene regulation technology.

Verticillium dahliae is the "culprit" of Cotton Verticillium wilt.

Guo Huishan team first revealed the way of entering the cotton body in the world, and then succeeded in preventing the spread of pathogens into cotton by gene control technology, RNAi gene "small scissors", and bred new cotton lines with high resistance to Verticillium Wilt in upland cotton.

The Verticillium Wilt Resistance of the new strain was 22.25% higher than that of the control variety.

The team also revealed how the new cotton resistant lines resist Verticillium wilt.

Researchers found that plants infected with Verticillium dahliae could induce the accumulation of a class of plant endogenous ribonucleic acid (miRNAs), which can be pported to the pathogen cells and degrade the pathogenic genes of the pathogen so as to achieve the effect of counteracting pathogens.

Relevant experts said that this series of research results not only opened up a new prospect in the academic field, but also provided important theoretical and technical support for the sustainable control of Verticillium wilt.

Safety will have an important impact.

Xinhua news agency, Beijing, October, 4 (reporter Wu Jingjing) Cotton Verticillium wilt is known as the "cancer" of cotton. It is the most serious disease of cotton growing in Xinjiang and other places in China. The disease of cotton will seriously reduce production or even harvest. The traditional control methods almost have no effect.

After 8 years' efforts, the research team led by Guo Huishan, a researcher at the Institute of Microbiology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, has made a series of breakthroughs in the control of Cotton Verticillium Wilt with gene regulation technology.

The latest research results are published online in the international journal nature plant.
